Spousal and Family Reunification Immigration

Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner; children; and parents or grandparents to immigrate to Canada. The requirements for spousal reunification immigration in Canada are quite straightforward for the applicant, as there are no demands for education, work experience, language proficiency, or proof of funds. As long as the sponsor is eligible and can prove the genuine nature of the relationship, the immigration process is likely to succeed, resulting in a high approval rate for this type of immigration.

Sponsor Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (permanent residents must apply from within Canada).
  • Must have no criminal record and demonstrate sufficient financial support.

Requirements for the Sponsored Individual:

  • The sponsored individual can be a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal record, and be in good health.
  • Must be legally married to the sponsor or have been in a common-law relationship for at least one year (proof of cohabitation for over 12 months is required, though brief separations for business or family reasons are permitted).

Parent and Grandparent Reunification

In 2023, invitations for parents and grandparents to reunite with their families were reissued. The immigration department is inviting candidates who had registered as sponsors in 2020 and earlier. Currently, new users are not allowed to register as sponsors.
